CE Approval Package

The new "Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008" that were supposed to come into force in December 2008 are now being delayed until December 2009. This will mean that any supplier of machinery (or anyone making significant modifications to machinery) will now face bigger penalties if they do not adhere to EC standards or provide the correct documentation with any installation ( www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2008/uksi_20081597_en_1 ).

For you as a customer (end user) this is just as significant because you'll come under PUWER regulations ( www.hse.gov.uk/pubns/indg291.pdf ) that reinforce the requirements of any machinery you  purchase to be CE marked in accordance with the Machinery Directive. You can face even bigger penalties if someone is harmed or dies due to equipment failure or misuse and if you have not ensured that the equipment you are using meets CE approval.
